The Top Three Places to Take Engagement Photos in Charleston

Updated: Feb 18, 2021

Did you just get engaged and are now looking for the perfect location to take your engagement photos? Hopefully this post will help make that decision a little easier. The first obvious choice is downtown Charleston. It is filled with unique and beautiful secret alleyways, cobblestone streets and peeks into secret gardens. The possibilities are endless! There will probably be a ton of walking so be sure to bring comfortable shoes to walk from one location to the next. The other issue can be finding parking near where you want to start shooting. Luckily there are plenty of parking garages around that almost always have space. Below is a couple who had their shoot done in downtown Charleston.

Hampton Park is probably my personal favorite. It has huge oak trees and wide open spaces with blooming flower beds throughout the whole park. It has a Plantation feel without the fees that go with shooting at a plantation. There is easy parking and public bathrooms which is always a plus for me. The only downside I can think of for this location is that it's very popular, so there may be a few other shoots going on and you may have to wait a few minuets to get time at a favorite spot. Below are a few favorites from Hampton.

Folly Beach is our next location.

The cool thing about this beach is that there are a couple different places we can go. Each location has its own special draw. The lighthouse side has, of course, a faraway view of the lighthouse and also a rock barrier that can make for some amazing sunset shots. The drawback to this spot is that there are no bathrooms and it is quite a hike to get to the actual beach. The other side is at Folly Beach County Park. There may not be a lighthouse or rocks but there are nice bathrooms, which will always be a plus for me and my tiny bladder! lol!

It also has driftwood and is lined with beautiful sea grass that can be used as a backdrop as well as an awesome boardwalk that can make for some fun shots!

Below is the Lighthouse side and the next shoot will be the County Park side.
